Our story

We built While We Can for the questions we kept postponing.

A family storytelling app for preserving family memories, asking better questions for parents, and keeping the stories that might otherwise fade.

Why we built While We Can

Most families have stories that are known by only one person. Childhood memories, small rituals, first jobs, difficult years, old friendships, and the ordinary moments that explain who someone became.

We wanted a calmer way to ask those questions while there is still time to hear the answers. Not a big archive project. Just one thoughtful question at a time.

The quiet problem with family stories

Family history is often lost slowly. Not because people do not care, but because nobody knows where to begin.

The best stories rarely come up on their own

A parent may never think to tell you about a childhood room, a first friend, or a choice that changed their life.

Good questions need a little help

When a conversation matters, it can be hard to find a question that feels natural and specific.

Memories deserve a place to return to

A saved answer becomes something the family can revisit, share, and pass on.

How daily questions work

While We Can turns family storytelling into a small habit. The app offers gentle prompts across topics like childhood, family traditions, life lessons, and memories worth preserving.

1

Receive a question

A daily prompt gives the conversation a clear starting point.

2

Answer at your own pace

Responses can be short, reflective, practical, funny, or unfinished.

3

Build a family memory collection

Over time, answers become a growing record of family history.

Privacy and ownership of memories

These are personal stories, so they should be treated with care. While We Can is being built around a simple principle: families should stay in control of the memories they choose to save.

  • You choose what to answer and what to keep.
  • Family memories should be stored respectfully, not treated as social content.
  • We will keep privacy language clear as the beta develops.

Meet the founders

While We Can is being built by Luc Moetwil and Lars Hartendorp. We are making it because we know the feeling of wanting to ask more, but not always knowing how to begin.
